My over detailed profile/bio post

I have profiles on tens, if not hundreds of sites, but I wanted to create a real profile/bio that really sums me up that I can easily spread via link and social media. Posterous of course was the only logical choice. This profile will likely change as my life changes so check back if you're wondering what's up with me. If you don't want to read this whole thing, and I don't blame you, then I put the key points in bold to speed things up.

Comments are welcome and appreciated.

Who am I?

My name is Andrew I'm 26 and recently moved to Los Angeles, California. I came out here from Cedar Rapids, IA and have lived quite a few places in the U.S. in my short life.

Making new friends has been a big goal of mine since I have arrived in California. I am quite used to having a large group of close friends around me and it seems weird not to share parts of my life with the people around me. If you're in the Los Angeles area and want to chat, grab coffee, or a drink then leave me a comment here or twitter and I would love to meet up.

Cedar Rapids was affected by a horrible flood in June of 2008 and has received a lot of media attention since then. If you are wondering, I wasn't affected by the flood. I was actually living in rural north west North Dakota for a short time during the floods last year. If you are wondering about the flood then visit SixDaysInJune.com which has video, photos and more about the June 2008 flood in Cedar Rapids. This website was made by KCRG and The Cedar Rapids Gazette.

What am I?
A geek plain and simple. I fill my life with Linux, Debian/GNU Linux to be exact. I write articles, tips, tricks, how-to's etc covering Debian GNU/Linux, Ubuntu, and other more general Linux articles.  I have a hard time explaining to people how I spend so much time on a computer and don't play games, sit on facebook playing games with zombies, or wading through spam in a yahoo chat.  I simply read about, play with, break, fix, and boast Linux all day. I never realized that this was my life until recently when I spent almost a month without Debian GNU/Linux.  This week is my Five year anniversary of using Debian as my primary (I don't dual boot) operating system. I have the Debian swirl logo tattooed on my forearm.

More Stuff:

Bicycling. I love anything to do with a bike and haven't had a car since 2004. I am an advocate, or I try, for living car-free. I have been interviewed and written about for bicycle commuting and car-free living newspaper (old media) articles by the Associated Press which have been syndicated to hundreds of international newspapers. I love music, I won't go in to detail because everyone says they love music.  I have ridden RAGBRAI the [Des Moines] Registers Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa with the wonderful Team Lizard Kings (Yes after Jim Morrison). I haven't been on RAGBRAI since 2006 but plan to go every year. Unfortunately Life gets in the way.

I love to help people whenever I can. Whether it's in a time of crisis and I can lend a hand, fixing a tire on the side of the road, fixing your computer, helping you install Linux, or just listening when you need to vent. I gain my sense of worth through how I can improve other peoples lives.

Photography:

I am very interested in Photography and love taking photos as much as I can. Unfortunately I can't afford a nice camera at the time. I have gone almost exactly one year with no camera at all and just yesterday I picked up a used extremely cheap Nikon Coolpix L10 which is just a cheap little point and shoot. At least this way I will be able to take photos of some sort instead of none at all. Hopefully I'll only have to use this for a short while until I can get a decent Nikon. Oh did I mention that I like Nikon? Want to see photos I've taken with a crappy point and shoot? Check out my Flickr.

Work:

Looking for anything that will pay enough to survive at this point.

Social Media:

Yes please.

It all started with MySpace which I never cared for and haven't updated forever, then on to Facebook in college before it was open to the general public. Along came Posterous which took my love for writing useless crap and made it social media. Posterous lead me to Twitter. Now I spend more time tweeting than anything else.  I am @Bizurke on Twitter.

I seriously think I'm one of the only people that used Posterous before Twitter. The only reason I went to twitter was because I noticed most the people I read about everyday on Posterous used it all day.

Do you use Posterous? If not I suggest you check out posterous.com to see why it's so incredibly awesome or just send an email to post@posterous.com to write your first post. I have written a post about why I like Posterous on this blog. This is not added to my post I wrote this myself because I think posterous is amazing and want to let everyone know about it.
